Lower Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

Overview

As they’re often the first point of contact you have with others, your eyes can make the natural aging process very visible. Excess fat and skin tissue can accumulate below your eyes as you age just as it can above your eyes, making you appear older than you feel and potentially obstructing your peripheral vision. Fat pockets and sagging skin below your eyes, also referred to as bags, can make them appear droopy and tired.

A lower eyelid lift is a very similar procedure to an upper eyelid lift, and it can be performed in conjunction with it if you have excess skin below your eyes in addition to above them. Your cosmetic surgeon will remove and/or reposition excess skin and fat beneath your eyes to restore their youthful appearance. The procedure is minimally invasive and performed in the office, requiring only the use a local numbing agent instead of general anesthesia.

Is a Lower Eyelid Lift Right for You?

If you’re a healthy adult male or female with excess skin below your eyes that makes you appear older than you feel, a lower eyelid lift procedure may be right for you. Excess skin and fat pockets accumulating beneath your eyes is a natural side effect of aging that can be effectively treated. If you think this procedure is right for you, contact ImageLift today to schedule your free consultation for a lower eyelid lift in Tampa or The Villages.  Alternatives include various filler treatments that can fill the surrounding “valleys” and make the eye bags appear less prominent.

What Should You Expect With a Lower Eyelid Lift?

After recovering from your lower eyelid lift, you should expect that your eyes appear younger and refreshed.

As with any cosmetic procedure, it is important that you know what to expect from a lower eyelid lift prior to having the procedure. The following are a few important things to keep in mind:

  1. A lower eyelid lift is minimally invasive and easily performed in the office. General anesthesia is not necessary for this procedure as it can be done with only local numbing medication while the patient is very comfortable.
  2. This procedure typically takes between forty-five and ninety minutes to perform. Recovery times will vary, usually taking one week for bruising and swelling to subside, and two to three weeks before all activities can be fully resumed.
  3. Variations of lower eyelid lifts are performed based on individual anatomy and expectations.  Additional procedures may be performed to tighten the lower eyelid if excessive laxity is present.  Ask our doctors if that is applicable to your treatment plan.

How Are the Results With a Lower Eyelid Lift?

While lower eyelid lifts are becoming less common than upper eyelid lifts due to the success of facial fillers in restoring volume beneath the eyes, they can be very effective for long lasting removal of bags beneath your eyes. After recovery, you will appear younger and more alert, and can expect these results to last for up to ten years.
