Upper Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

Overview

You see your eyes every time you look in the mirror and they are typically the first part of your body seen by others. Inevitably, when you make eye contact, people see the skin surrounding your eyes as well. As you age, your eyelids naturally stretch, often causing your eyelid skin to sag or become fatty, making the aging process very visible. Fortunately, there are treatment options available that will allow you to appear as young as you feel.

An upper eyelid lift, also called blepharoplasty, is a minimally invasive procedure that can help you rejuvenate the appearance of your eyes. When you receive an upper eyelid lift, excess skin and surrounding tissue is removed from above your eyelids, improving the appearance and functionality of your eyes.

Is an Upper Eyelid Lift Right for You?

If you’re a healthy adult male or female with excess skin around your eyes that makes you appear older than you feel, an upper eyelid lift procedure may be right for you. As you age, excess skin and fatty tissue can naturally develop above and below your eyes, inhibiting your ability to see and negatively affecting your appearance. An upper eyelid lift works by removing and/or repositioning this excess tissue to restore your eyes’ youthful appearance and improve their peripheral visibility. If you think this procedure may be right for you, contact ImageLift today to schedule your free consultation for an upper eyelid lift in Tampa or The Villages Florida.

What Should You Expect With an Upper Eyelid Lift?

After recovering from your upper eyelid lift, you should expect that your eyes appear younger and refreshed.

As with any cosmetic procedure, it is important that you know what to expect from an upper eyelid lift prior to receiving it. The following are a few important things to keep in mind:

  1. An upper eyelid lift is minimally invasive and performed as an in-office procedure. General anesthesia is not necessary for this procedure as it can easily be done with only local numbing medication.
  2. This procedure typically takes between thirty and forty-five minutes to perform and recovery times will vary, taking up to a few weeks.
  3. Traditional upper eyelid procedures would remove skin, muscle, and fat.  Today, many treatments can focus on skin only, or skin a fat as needed to preserve tissue volume.  Taking too much tissue can skeletonize and create a more aging appearance, which is why a minimalist approach for eyelid treatments is preferable.

How Are the Results With an Upper Eyelid Lift?

Typically, after recovery you can expect that an upper eyelid lift will make your eyes appear younger and more aware, improving your overall appearance. The results from upper eyelid lifts are long lasting, restoring the appearance of your eyes for up to ten years, although results will vary based on individual circumstances. If the rest of your facial skin is sagging and/or wrinkling from the natural aging process, you may want to consider an upper eyelid lift in combination with another procedure, such as ImageLift fillers or laser treatments.
